Tottenham turn down chance to sign midfielder for just £17m

Tottenham Hotspur have been offered a chance to sign an Italy international for a modest fee, but the North London club have not shown any interest in doing so before the transfer deadline.

Through the January window and even during the months leading up to it, we saw several reports talk up the chances of Spurs swooping for Nicolo Fagioli.

A few outlets reported that the Lilywhites could land Fagioli for €25m (£21m) after the Bianconeri decided to put him on the shop window.

It was even suggested that Fagioli had prioritised a move to Spurs despite attracting interest from a number of other Premier League sides.

The print edition of Corriere dello Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness) have now become the latest to suggest that Fagioli is not in Thiago Motta’s plans, with Juve trying hard to offload him in the final week of the window.

It is revealed that the Serie A club even offered their academy graduate to Tottenham for a discounted price of €20m (£16.8m), but the North London club did not show any interest in the player.

Juve have reportedly been trying to drum up interest from the Premier League for the 23-year-old and offered the midfielder for the same amount to Crystal Palace and Fulham, but even those clubs showed no interest in doing a deal.

Tottenham do not appear to want a midfielder

If reports over the last few days are to be believed, Tottenham’s priority before the deadline is to sign a forward and a centre-back.

It does not seem like a midfielder is on the agenda for now, with Lucas Bergvall‘s rise perhaps having something to do with that decision.

It is an area that Spurs will look at again in the summer but with the Lilywhites having the option to sign Johnny Cardoso from Real Betis for just €25m (£21m), it remains to be seen if the Juve man would be of interest to the club.
