Tottenham agree big-money fee with Bayern Munich for Mathys Tel
There has been a huge update regarding Tottenham’s pursuit of Mathys Tel, with the North London club thought to have agreed a fee with Bayern Munich for the winger – but the deal is not yet done.
Spurs are showing the firmest interest in Mathys Tel
Since Thursday morning, sources have revealed that among the various Premier League clubs interested in Tel, Tottenham have shown the firmest interest in the forward.
The club’s technical director, Johan Lange, is thought to be in Germany right now, trying to hammer out an agreement for the 19-year-old.
Florian Plettenberg even told Sky Sports News that ‘direct talks’ are currently ongoing between Spurs and Bayern regarding the Frenchman, and it now appears that there has been a breakthrough in the negotiations.
Tottenham agree fee with Bayern for Mathys Tel
L’Equipe have now claimed that Spurs have agreed a fee of €60m (£50.1m) with Bayern for the permanent transfer of Tel, with the Premier League side thus potentially taking a big step towards winning the race for the teenager.
However, the outlet makes it clear that the deal is not done just yet as the France Under-21 international now has to make a final decision on his next destination.
The outlet explains that Tel is now ‘taking time to reflect’ on his choice and that other clubs ‘should send their proposals quickly’ if they want to have a say in the winger’s future.
Spending £50m on Tel is a huge statement of intent from Spurs
In a transfer window where we have not seen much money spent as clubs grapple with the reality of PSR, spending £50m on a 19-year-old would be a huge statement of intent from the Tottenham hierarchy.
However, Spurs fans have been in this situation before and seen other clubs steal their transfer targets at the last moment, which is why they will not be counting their chickens before they hatch.
It appears as if the next few hours could be decisive as Tottenham wait for the green light from the pacy winger.
