Tottenham Hotspur are keen on securing a sensational late deal for a Premier League marksman, but they face one major roadblock in making the transfer happen before the deadline.

Tottenham turn attention to PL striker

With Dominic Solanke currently out injured, Richarlison is the only other number nine at Ange Postecoglou‘s disposal, and given the Brazilian’s injury record, the Tottenham head coach might not be too keen to rely on him.

Reports over recent days have indicated that Spurs are exploring a late move for a number nine, with Brighton’s Evan Ferguson being linked with a move to North London.

However, amidst reports that the 20-year-old may be hesitant to move to N17, it appears that the Lilywhites have turned their attention to another Premier League marksman.

Spurs hold concrete interest in Brentford’s Yoane Wissa

Earlier this week, Spurs Web relayed reports which suggested that Tottenham had opened talks with Brentford over a deal for Yoane Wissa.

The 28-year-old has been at the Gtech Community Stadium since 2021 but is currently having his best season since his switch to English football, having found the back of the net 11 times in 20 league games so far.

Ben Jacobs has now asserted that Spurs do hold a ‘concrete’ interest in the Congo international but explained that the Bees are reluctant to sell the striker.

The journalist said on the Last Word on Spurs podcast: “Tottenham have a concrete interest in Wissa but obviously much, much harder because Brentford do not want to sell.”

Late deal for a striker looks unlikely

The expectation seems to be that Dominic Solanke will be fit before the end of February. It would thus be surprising if his injury forces Spurs to enter the market for another number nine.

If Tottenham sign a versatile forward like Mathys Tel, who can play across the front three, that should give Postecoglou plenty of options to navigate through the next few weeks before the club’s record signing returns to action.
