Tottenham dealt blow in bid to sign QPR youngster, despite Yang deal
Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of a young English prospect has hit a stumbling block, with the player set to remain at Queens Park Rangers.
Ange Postecoglou has had mixed success signing young players at Tottenham
Tottenham have favoured signing young players since Ange Postecoglou was appointed as manager, with Spurs bringing a number of teenagers to the club.
This strategy has delivered some success, with Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall both regularly starting in recent weeks. The 18-year-old wonderkids have been impressive for Spurs, with Gray in particular receiving praise for slotting in as a centre-back and a left-back to cover for injured first-team players.
However, not all Postecoglou’s young signings have made the same impact. Yang-Min-Hyeok’s move to Spurs had long been anticipated since a deal was agreed last summer, yet the Korean has joined QPR on loan. Other players such as Ashley Phillips and Alejo Veliz have been sent on loan since arriving at Hotspur Way.
For some, their failure to make an impact at Tottenham is down to poor luck with injuries. Wilson Odobert, who signed from Burnley, has only made five appearances for Spurs due to a problem with his hamstring.
Spurs are set to miss out on Emmerson Sutton
According to TBR Football, Tottenham are looking to recruit another teenager as they are interested in signing QPR winger Emmerson Sutton.
This comes after Spurs loaned young Yang Min-hyeok to QPR for the rest of the season.
Spurs are not the only club to have shown an interest in Sutton. In fact, a number of Premier League teams have been linked with the 17-year-old, including Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City, Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion.
However, Sutton has just signed his first professional contract with QPR, making a move unlikely. Following the announcement, Sutton called the club his home and said he was ‘dedicated to giving back’ what the club has given to him (QPR).
Who else have Tottenham been linked with signing?
Spurs have been linked with many attacking players during the January transfer window as they look to provide some depth in their first-team squad.
The biggest transfer story at this point in time is that Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel could join the Lilywhites, another talented teenager to have caught the club’s eye.
However, Spurs have also been linked with the likes of Tyler Dibling and AC Milan forward Noah Okafor over the past 48 hours.
