Tottenham’s defensive crisis deepens

In the game against IF Elfsborg in the Europa League, Tottenham Hotspur suffered an injury blow as Radu Dragusin was forced off shortly after coming on for the returning Micky van de Ven.

Although Van de Ven’s return was a boost, Tottenham’s lack of depth in defence has been a problem throughout the season, with injuries disrupting their progress and exposing their vulnerability at the back.

Following the centre-back’s injury, manager Ange Postecoglou hinted that Spurs might be in for another defender if the injury is a long-term one, he stated: “I think depending on the extent of Radu’s (injury), it might be an area we need to look at and certainly this weekend (we are) exploring some options.”

Fabrizio Romano confirms Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer stance

The situation surrounding Dragusin’s injury has now accelerated Tottenham Hotspur’s search for defensive reinforcements, as Fabrizio Romano has hinted that Dragusin could be out for a long period.

The well-respected journalist reported on X that “Tottenham internally feel that Radu Dragusin’s knee injury could be serious, at least one and eventually two centre-backs will be joining in the final days.”

This revelation suggests that Spurs will move for defensive signings imminently, with the need to strengthen now becoming a top priority as they attempt to turn around their dismal Premier League campaign.

Who have Spurs been linked with?

Following Ange Postecoglou’s confirmation that Tottenham Hotspur are assessing their options, reports have surfaced linking the North London club with a move for AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori.

However, that pursuit appears to have stalled, as the England international has decided to remain with the Serie A club rather than return to the Premier League this winter.

Tottenham have since turned their attention to other potential targets, with the latest reports indicating that Spurs have joined the race for Chelsea’s Axel Disasi.

With Dragusin potentially facing a spell on the sidelines, securing at least one more centre-back could be the key to sustaining their ambitions of silverware for the rest of the campaign.
