Tottenham cool interest in Tyler Dibling as a result of Southampton’s huge demands
Tottenham Hotspur have cooled their interest in Tyler Dibling before the transfer window closes as a result of Southampton’s extortionate demands.
Spurs’ long-standing interest in Tyler Dibling
Over the past few months, Tottenham Hotspur have been consistently linked with a move for Southampton’s Tyler Dibling, as they look to bolster their attacking options.
Despite the winger spending a spell on the sidelines due to injury, Spurs had remained keen, keeping close tabs on his progress and weighing up a potential deal.
Other European heavyweights had also taken notice, with Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich monitoring the 18-year-old’s situation.
The highly-rated prospect had emerged as a player of interest across the continent, with clubs assessing whether he could be prised away from St Mary’s this winter.
Southampton’s stance on Dibling’s valuation was made clear early on, as reports suggested they would not entertain offers below £50million.
Even with this steep asking price, Tottenham had continued to engage in talks, and just yesterday, Saints boss Ivan Juric himself provided the latest update on the situation.
Tottenham cool interest in Tyler Dibling amid high demands
It is now being reported by The Standard that Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Tyler Dibling has cooled off. They report that Spurs have held talks over the 18-year-old winger but were put off by the Saints’ demands of an astronomical fee, well in excess of their reported £55million asking price.
This afternoon saw a remarkable transfer u-turn with Mathys Tel to complete a loan move to Tottenham Hotspur from Bayern Munich, despite having previously rejected the chance to join the club.
Spurs could revisit Tyler Dibling deal in the summer
While this development effectively ends Tottenham’s interest in Dibling for this winter window, there is every possibility that they will reignite their pursuit in the summer.
By that point, the winger will have just two years left on his current contract at St Mary’s, a situation that could significantly impact his valuation.
Southampton’s position in the Premier League could also be a key factor. If the Saints, currently rock-bottom in the table, suffer relegation to the Championship, their bargaining power may diminish, potentially allowing Spurs and other interested clubs to return with more favourable negotiations.
