Tottenham considered moves for AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund forwards
Tottenham managed to tie up an impressive deal for Mathys Tel on transfer deadline day, but it has now emerged that the Lilywhites also considered late moves for two other highly-rated young forwards.
Ange Postecoglou delighted to bring Mathys Tel through the door
It sounds like everyone at Spurs is pleased with the business they did in January, with Ange Postecoglou confident that Tel will prove a hit in the Premier League.
This was seconded by the club’s technical director, Johan Lange, who admitted that everyone at Hotspur Way is excited to see what the French teenager can do when given the freedom to express himself.
However, it turns out that Spurs also had other attackers lined up if they had been unable to agree a deal with Bayern for the 19-year-old.
Tottenham considered moves for two other forwards
This update comes from The Athletic, who say that Spurs also considered late moves for two highly-rated young wide-forwards in the dying stages of the transfer window.
The players on the North London club’s radar were allegedly AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze and new Borussia Dortmund sensation Jamie Gittens.
However, the outlet makes it clear that Tottenham’s interest in the pair never substantiated into an offer.
The 20-year-old Dortmund man has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs over recent months, but the Lilywhites are not the only big Premier League looking at Gittens.
Meanwhile, reports from Italy also claimed during the final days of the transfer window that Milan had offered Tottenham the chance to sign Chukwueze as the Serie A club were keen to get some players off their books.
Will Tottenham go back in for Jamie Gittens?
One would imagine that Gittens will be poached by a top Premier League club at the end of the season, but we know that Borussia Dortmund tend to demand huge fees for their young assets.
According to TBR Football, Tottenham and other English sides would have to stump up £50m to bring the winger back to these shores.
Spurs have shown that they are ready to spend that kind of cash on young players if they feel that they are the right profile for the club, and Postecoglou could perhaps convince Gittens that a move to N17 would be the right fit for the next stage of his development.
