Ange Postecoglou asked if he will get the Spurs sack for FA Cup exit
Ange Postecoglou insists that he is not preoccupied with his own future at the moment even though reports are circulating that his days at Spurs could be numbered if the Lilywhites get knocked out of the FA Cup by Aston Villa.
Season continues to go from bad to worse for Spurs
With Tottenham floundering in mid-table in the Premier League, the fans were looking towards the cups to offer some reprieve, but the Lilywhites threw away their best chance of winning a trophy this season after getting thrashed in the Carabao Cup semifinal at Anfield on Thursday.
Spurs failed to turn up in that game and did not register a single shot on target. The performance has certainly got some alarm bells ringing, particularly given that the clash was built up as the club’s biggest game of the campaign so far.
Some will feel that a loss against Villa in the FA Cup fourth round could be the final nail in the coffin for Postecoglou at Tottenham.
Ange Postecoglou is not thinking about his Spurs future
However, the Tottenham head coach has insisted that he has given no thought to his own future and is only focused on helping the club beat Villa and turn around their season.
The 59-year-old remarked that he is determined as ever to get the club back on the path towards success, admitting that he is looking forward to getting some of his injured players back.
When asked about potentially losing his job if Tottenham get dumped out of the FA Cup at Villa Park, Postecoglou responded (via Football.London): “Me personally, that doesn’t enter my head space.
“I get that’s obviously a massive topic of discussion because when things aren’t going well you look at the person who’s largely responsible for that and that’s me. It is what it is. You’ve got to get on with it. It doesn’t change the decisions I make, how I feel, how I work today or how determined I am to continue on this path.
“Right now, the focus is on getting this group of players recovered for Sunday. It’s a big game and hopefully a positive result and then over the next couple of weeks we’ll get some significant players back, which I think will help.”
Postecoglou is still enjoying his Spurs experience
Postecoglou’s demeanour in press conferences has certainly been different over recent months, with the Australian being a lot more guarded and serious as opposed to the humorous and easy-going man we saw for much of last season.
However, the Tottenham head coach has asserted that he is still very much relishing the challenge of bringing success to the club, even though things have not gone according to plan for much of the campaign.
When asked if it has got to a place where the job is not enjoyable, the Australian responded: “No, no. It never gets to that, because the responsibility I have is not around me enjoying anything. My responsibility lies in trying to steer the club and guide the club through this process to get us to where we want to.
“It doesn’t damper my determination or my will or desire to get us to where we want to. It’s a challenge, but there’s always challenges in football and in management — that doesn’t change,” he explained.
“It’s not like I woke up this morning, well, to be fair, I didn’t sleep, but it’s not like I got up this morning and didn’t want to come in. I came in early and want to try and help everyone, players and staff, to make sure that we get ready for a big game on Sunday.”
