Are we coming to the end of the Ange Postecoglou era?

If this is indeed the start of the end of Postecoglou‘s time at Spurs, it certainly has a very different feel to the end of the Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte era.

The 59-year-old continues to conduct himself with class, and unlike his predecessors, who were only too happy to throw the players under the bus, Postecoglou has continued to defend his players publicly.

The Tottenham head coach is certainly not throwing in the towel and still believes that the club can get their hands on a trophy this season.

Postecoglou’s gesture at full-time at Villa Park

Nizaar Kinsella has now revealed that the Tottenham boss went over to the away fans to acknowledge them after the 2-1 loss to Villa and stayed out there for a long time. Mathys Tel was also spotted out on the pitch longer than any other player.

The journalist suggested that it is a sign that despite the team’s struggles this season, Postecoglou still has the support of many Spurs fans, who blame Daniel Levy for the club’s current mess.

Kinsella wrote for BBC Sport: “Ange Postecoglou was out acknowledging supporters for a long time at the final whistle, staying out longer than any other player or member of staff after the match, aside from goalscorer Mathys Tel.

“It highlights how, although not universally loved at Spurs amid declining results, he retains a decent relationship with supporters, who have directed most of their anger at the recent run of results at chairman Daniel Levy.”

Postecoglou will be judged by results at Spurs

There is no doubt that Postecoglou is a great man and his conduct throughout his time at Tottenham has been exemplary.

However, football is a results-based industry, and his position will become untenable (if it has not already) if the team’s form does not turn around.

It is clear that the Spurs hierarchy are desperate for the Australian to succeed, which is why they will likely wait to see if there is any recovery when key players are back fit.
