Tottenham must make one big change to match even Aston Villa – Jamie O’Hara
Jamie O’Hara has offered a scathing indictment of how far away Tottenham are from competing with Aston Villa after the Villans taught the Lilywhites a harsh lesson on Sunday in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Unai Emery’s men school Tottenham
Not many Spurs fans would have been optimistic heading into the game at Villa Park, given the players that their side was missing and their appalling recent form.
The game took a very predictable pattern, with Emery’s men dominating the away side, who struggled to create too many chances of note.
In the end, Villa emerged as deserved 2-1 winners, with Tottenham thus being knocked out of the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup in a matter of just days.
Jamie O’Hara compares Spurs to Aston Villa as football club
Villa have finished above Tottenham for the past two seasons, pipping the North London side to Champions League qualification last term.
They look well poised to finish above Spurs for a third season in a row, currently sitting 10 points clear of Postecoglou’s men in the Premier League table.
O’Hara described the Midlands side as a “proper football club striving for success” and compared them favourably with Spurs, suggesting that the mentality has to change at the top for his former club to catch up.
He wrote: ‘Villa are a proper club striving for football success with owners who want to bring trophies, they have a top class manager who gets best out of the players, organised, passionate, a drive to win, Spurs nowhere near them, until the mentality changes from the top we’re going nowhere.’
Here is what the pundit tweeted after Sunday’s FA Cup encounter:
Gap between Tottenham and Villa is not as big as it seems
We have to be cautious of jumping to major conclusions, given that Spurs are missing around 11 or 12 key first-team players at the moment. Any side would struggle when they are without many key men, especially when they are forced to play every three days.
It is worth remembering that Tottenham beat Villa comfortably at home earlier this season and at Villa Park last season when they were at full strength.
