Tottenham set to be snubbed by German star in favour of Barcelona
Fresh reports have revealed that an out-of-contract defender will likely choose Barcelona over the likes of Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window.
Pre-contract agreements Tottenham Hotspur can reach
Earlier this week, we put together a list of six soon-to-be free agents that Tottenham Hotspur can strike a pre-contract agreement with.
In that list, we had the likes of Joshua Kimmich, Angel Gomes and Jonathan David, it has now been revealed that the latter, is set to join Spanish side Barcelona.
Before the winter window slammed shut, the Lilywhites were desperately trying to sign a new centre-back – they even put in a £70million bid for Crystal Palace Marc Guehi, but it was swiftly rejected.
Jonathan Tah set to join Barcelona over Tottenham and Co
Now that the January transfer window has closed, Spurs have turned their focus to their summer plans, and with the Lilywhites still searching for a centre-back, a golden opportunity may be slipping away.
Jonathan Tah, a player Tottenham have previously shown interest in, is nearing the end of his contract this summer and recent reports have now revealed the club leading the race for the 29-year-old.
According to TBR Football, interest in the German centre-back is at an all-time high, with Newcastle, Aston Villa, and West Ham all said to have made enquiries.
Despite interest from these Premier League sides, it is claimed that Hansi Flick’s Barcelona are the favourites to secure Tah’s signature.
The publication also states that Flick is determined to bring Tah to Barcelona this summer, having missed out on signing him last year despite lengthy negotiations.

Barcelona could steal another free agent from Tottenham
Given the Spanish side’s financial constraints, it is clear that the Catalan club will be looking to secure the signings of several out-of-contract stars.
Considering the club’s stature and history, it will be challenging for Tottenham Hotspur—who are set to go a season without European football if they fail to win the Europa League—to convince and attract top players.
Jonathan David, a player who would have been an excellent addition to Spurs’ attack, is allegedly edging closer to a Barcelona move. If Tottenham’s strategy is to snap up these out-of-contract gems, then they have to move quickly.
