Mauricio Pochettino reacts to Spurs fans chanting his name – ‘Tottenham have a great squad’

Amidst speculation linking Mauricio Pochettino with a return to Tottenham Hotspur, the Argentine has now talked glowingly about his former club and the relationship he shares with the Spurs faithful.

Could Spurs get Mauricio Pochettino right now?

Even though Pochettino only took over as the head coach of the United States national side just five months ago, he has been mooted as a potential replacement for the under-fire boss Ange Postecoglou.

Reports have played down the possibility of Mauricio Pochettino making an immediate return to Spurs, with his contract with the US Soccer Federation through to have a clause that would make it very difficult for him to leave before next year’s World Cup in America.

The same report also suggested that the 52-year-old is keen to see through the challenge he has taken up and take his side into a home World Cup.

Some Tottenham supporters have made it clear who they want Daniel Levy to appoint if the club part ways with Ange Postecoglou, with the supporters singing Mauricio Pochettino’s name during Sunday’s FA Cup loss against Aston Villa.

The former Spurs manager has now thrown what some could perceive as a hint about his willingness to return to N17 when asked about the supporters who continue to sing his name.

When quizzed on the fact that his name was sung at Villa Park, the USA head coach told Sports Bible: “My relationship with Spurs fans, the love is still there after six years. Tottenham have a great squad, players, fans. The club is amazing.”

Postecoglou may not appreciate the timing of these comments, given the pressure he is coming under.

Could a fairytale Mauricio Pochettino return be on the cards for Spurs?

Most Tottenham fans would have Mauricio Pochettino back in a heartbeat if that was a possibility, and his return would immediately energize the club, given the synergy it would create between the fans and the team.

However, at this moment in time, I would be surprised if the Tottenham hierarchy were considering the Argentine as an option.

They appear determined to keep faith in Postecoglou for now, and even if he were to be sacked, it seems like they are looking at candidates who are coaching in the Premier League or an elite European club right now.
