One Tottenham Hotspur man reportedly has a fresh injury concern after being withdrawn by Ange Postecoglou in the latter part of the second half during the club’s 1-0 win over Manchester United.

Spurs comprehensively win midfield battle against Man Utd

Tottenham were good value for their win over Man United on Sunday, even though the away side squandered some big chances in front of goal.

The Lilywhites were the dominant side for the majority of the game and a big reason for that was the fact that they won the midfield battle. Rodrigo Bentancur, Lucas Bergvall and James Maddison simply had too much energy and skill for the United midfielders.

The Spurs midfield looked well-balanced on Sunday, and one would expect Postecoglou to continue with the same trio, but the Tottenham head coach may have an injury concern to worry about.

Concern over Rodrigo Bentancur after ice pack spotted

Bentancur, who had been struggling for consistency of late, looked back to his best against the Red Devils, helping the Lilywhites dominate possession by recycling the ball effectively.

The Uruguayan was also alive to the danger defensively, helping mop up in front of the back four, but he now faces the prospect of potentially being on the treatment table.

It has been confirmed by BBC Sport that after the 28-year-old made way for Yves Bissouma on 78 minutes, he was seen sitting on the Spurs bench with ice on his left knee.

Tottenham fans will be hoping that it was just done as a precaution as the last thing the club need is to lose another key player to injury.

What Ange Postecoglou said about Rodrigo Bentancur

Postecoglou confirmed in his post-match press conference that it was not only Bentancur who had an issue but also Kevin Danso and Heung-min Son.

However, the Tottenham head coach suggested that the trio were just carrying knocks rather than significant injuries and backed them to be fit for his side’s trip to the Portman Road Stadium to take on Ipswich Town next Saturday.

It remains to be seen whether Bentancur’s knock settled down after the final whistle or whether it could leave him as a doubt for the Ipswich game.

Postecoglou said: “He [Danso] got a knock on his knee. Him, Sonny and Rodri all got sort of knocks. I don’t think it is anything significant.

“But the beauty of it now is we can actually get them to recover instead of trying to patch them up and throw them out (onto the pitch) again midweek. I think from what I’ve heard, knocks all three of them but they should be fine.”
