Tottenham first-half player ratings vs Bournemouth – 1/10 for disgraceful midfield display

0

The first half of Premier League football between Tottenham and Bournemouth has come to an end on this sunny Sunday afternoon, meaning it’s time for our half-time player ratings.

Ange Postecoglou hasn’t hesitated to rotate his squad ahead of an important second leg against AZ next Thursday, as his side look to claw back a one-goal deficit.

Club captain Son Heung-Min has dropped to the bench, meanwhile, the teenage duo of Gray and Bergvall also get a well-deserved rest. Postecoglou continues to manage Maddison’s minutes also.

It’s a first start since the turn of the year for Cristian Romero, and striker Dominic Solanke overcame an injury scare in The Netherlands to land his name on the teamsheet against his former club. Hopefully, the pair of them manage to make an impact today.

Throughout the first half, we analysed each player’s individual performance, rating them on a scale of 1-10. Let’s take a look at how they got on.

Tottenham first-half player ratings vs Bournemouth

Guglielmo Vicario: Vicario was called into action twice in the opening five minutes. He had to make two great saves to keep the scoreline level, tipping Evanilson’s shot round the post and making a huge block to deny Kluivert. He was beaten by a good strike but Vicario did well to keep the scoreline at only 1 in the first half. 7.5.

Pedro Porro: Porro was a problem for Bournemouth in attack as the Spanish fullback bombarded balls into the box at will, but in defence, he was lacklustre. It was his misplaced pass that led to Bournemouth taking the lead, and he couldn’t have been more out of position as Kerkez drove into the empty space and delivered a sublime cross to the back post. 5.5.

Cristian Romero: It was almost a disaster of a start to the match for Romero as he gifted Evanilson possession in a dangerous area after less than 30 seconds, but Vicario made a huge save to spare his blushes. Cuti continued to look uncomfortable in possession after a succession of woeful passes that more often than not found a red and black shirt. 3.

Kevin Danso: Danso didn’t have many, if any, standout moments in that first half, but he made no real errors and was decent in possession. 5.

Djed Spence: Spence enjoyed the license to roam down the left side, linking up with Odobert and driving at Cook whenever he had the opportunity. Defensively, he was strong too, utilising his technicality and physicality to manoeuvre out of tight spaces and assert dominance shoulder-to-shoulder. 7.

Rodrigo Bentancur: Bentancur was awful throughout the first half, constantly mistiming and misplacing passes, reluctantly jogging back in transition and just being dreadful full stop. I’m not sure how much more I can watch of this man, he’s terrible. 1.

Yves Bissouma: Bissouma was average in the first half but the Mali international was a bit erratic at times, perhaps not thinking before making a decision a couple of times. He was caught out a number of times and was sloppy for most of the half. 2.5.

Pape Sarr: Sarr played as the more advanced midfielder and displayed great running power and positional awareness at times. He didn’t create enough in the final third, however, and it won’t be a surprise to see him drop a bit deeper in the second half. 4.5.

Brennan Johnson: Johnson was average down the right flank, and whenever he developed an opportunity to run or drive into the box, he was often shut out by Huijsen or Kerkez. 4.

Dominic Solanke: Solanke held up play nicely one or two times but wasn’t provided with any real chances to get his name on the scoresheet so far this afternoon. 5.

Wilson Odobert: Odobert made a sharp start on the left flank, showing no fear or hesitation to take on his man or drill crosses into the box. However, as the half grew on, Wilson became a bit wasteful, perhaps making the wrong decision one or two times. 5.5.
