Tottenham’s Benjamin Sesko hopes fade as Arsenal take control
Tottenham Hotspur have been monitoring Benjamin Sesko, but fresh reports indicate they are now trailing behind Arsenal in the pursuit of the RB Leipzig striker.
Tottenham are expected to strengthen their forward line ahead of next season. Given the constant injuries and lack of depth in that area, it is hardly a surprise.
Richarlison’s persistent injury struggles have already been a concern. The Brazilian forward is one of ten players we believe could be shown the exit door at Tottenham this summer.
Dominic Solanke has also had his injury problems, having spent over a month on the sidelines this season. As a result, Spurs have shown interest in RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, a highly-rated striker with a release clause in his contract.
While no official bids have been tabled, recent reports suggest that Tottenham’s chances of landing the Slovenian forward have significantly diminished.
Arsenal take the lead in Benjamin Sesko pursuit
Arsenal have surged ahead of Tottenham in the race to sign Benjamin Sesko, sources have told Football Insider.
Previous reports had Spurs linked with a move for Sesko, with several other Premier League clubs also monitoring his situation. However, Mikel Arteta’s side are now firmly in the driving seat.
The Gunners have reportedly been working on a deal for Sesko since last summer, which has given them a significant advantage over their North London rivals.
With Arsenal moving swiftly behind the scenes, Spurs now face an uphill battle if they hope to revive their chances.
Missed opportunity for Tottenham?
The report also claims that Tottenham held discussions with Sesko’s representatives during the January transfer window, as they explored the possibility of bringing in a new striker to address concerns over their attacking depth and Solanke’s injury woes.
However, Ange Postecoglou’s side are believed to have made their move too late, with Arsenal now in pole position to secure the 21-year-old’s services when the summer window opens.
Sesko has a €68m (approximately £58m) release clause, which will become active at the end of the season. His current deal with RB Leipzig runs until 2029, but with strong interest in his signature and an affordable release clause, a move away this summer looks increasingly likely.
