CEO reveals Tottenham owe him more money for midfielder, but Spurs will be happy

0

A club CEO has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur owe them more money for a player the North London club signed from them last year, who has been extremely impressive for Ange Postecoglou’s side over recent months.

It has not all been smooth sailing at Tottenham for Lucas Bergvall, who initially struggled to make an impact at the start of the campaign, with the 18-year-old taking his time to adapt to the demands of Premier League football.

However, the teenager is now coming into his own, seemingly getting better with each outing, and has been one of Spurs’ most consistent performers over recent months.

Back in December, it was reported that Spurs owed Djurgardens another €3.5m (£2.8m) in bonuses after Bergvall made his first Premier League start for the club.

Djurgardens CEO reveals Spurs owe more money

Djurgardens CEO Henrik Berggren has now been speaking about the Swedish club’s finances, and while doing so, he made a big revelation on Bergvall.

He explained that the club are in line to receive more funds from Tottenham Hotspur in the near future, with Bergvall now thriving at the Premier League club.

When asked about the fact that Djurgardens have received a lot of funds from player sales since the start of 2024, Berggren told Fotbollskanalen: “It’s clear that these are good numbers, but that is what happens when you sell many players and especially some very expensive ones. That’s money that we will receive both this year and next year.”

When asked what the expected payments are for, he said: “It’s for Bergvall, Dahl and Widell Zetterström. But it’s clear that the sale of Lucas stands out.”

Berggren also made it clear that these calculations are without taking into account bonus payments, which the club could also be in line to receive.

He added: “There are no bonuses at all, no. There are only fixed amounts in the claims. So, there are more bonuses that can fall out [in Djurgardens favour] in the future as well.”

Tottenham could pay a huge bones fee for Lucas Bergvall

It was reported a couple of months ago that Spurs paid an initial €9.8m (£8.1m) for Bergvall, but the deal includes further add-ons worth €9.3m (£7.6m).

Given that the Sweden international has now established himself as a mainstay in the Tottenham midfield, it looks inevitable that the Lilywhites will pay the bonus amount.

The Premier League side will be more than happy to pay the full £7.6m in bonuses as that would mean that Bergvall has gone on to fulfil his potential at N17.
