Tottenham want to re-sign Dennis Cirkin but face competition from London rivals

0

Tottenham Hotspur are keen on re-signing their former academy graduate who they let go in 2021, but the Lilywhites are set to face competition from a whole host of sides for the player, including from two of their fierce London rivals.

A number of young players who have been let go by Tottenham over the years have gone on to have impressive careers, including the likes of Marcus Edwards, Noni Madueke and Adam Smith.

Another Tottenham academy graduate, who looks certain to end up in the Premier League sooner rather than later is Dennis Cirkin, who swapped Hotspur Way for the Stadium of Light back in 2021.

The left-back has gone from strength to strength over the last few years and is currently having a stellar campaign for the Championship side, with three goals and two assists in 32 appearances so far.

Tottenham expected to battle Chelsea and co for Dennis Cirkin

TBR Football have now revealed that Spurs have shown interest in re-signing Cirkin when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

The North London club are keeping a close watch on the 22-year-old’s development as they contemplate bringing him back to N17.

However, it is pointed out that they are not the only club eyeing the left-back, who enters the final year of his deal with the Black Cats this summer.

As a result, the likes of Chelsea, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Everton and Leeds United are also keeping an eye on the defender’s situation.

Cirkin could be the ideal replacement for Ben Davies

Cirkin would not be a natural fit for the inverted left-back role in Postecoglou’s system, although he can do a job in that position.

However, he might be a decent option to cover for the left centre-back role, with the youngster having regularly played as a centre-back in a back three.

With Ben Davies’ current deal coming to an end this summer, Cirkin might be the ideal option to take the place of the experienced Welshman in the squad.
