Djed Spence makes admission about England call-up Tottenham fans will love
Djed Spence has revealed if he has heard from new boss Thomas Tuchel about a potential England call-up and made an interesting admission about whether he expects to make the cut.
Spence has gone from being regularly overlooked at Tottenham Hotspur earlier this season to arguably being the club’s most consistent player over recent months.
His performances have been difficult to ignore, which is why many have talked up his chances of making the England squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia.
Ange Postecoglou has insisted that Spence is ready to make the step up to the international stage if Tuchel does decide to call him up.
Djed Spence opens up on England call-up hopes
No full-back in the Premier League has been in as red-hot form as the Tottenham man, which is why one would imagine that it would be difficult for Tuchel to overlook him.
In fact, Spence was even nominated for the Player of the Month award for February, which shows the level at which he is currently playing.
However, the defender insists that while he would love to make the Three Lions set-up, he will remain focused on helping Tottenham win games, irrespective of whether he makes the cut or not.
When asked about the possibility of making his England debut later this month, Spence said (via Football.London): “Who doesn’t want to play for their country? That’s something I’m looking forward to.
“If I get called up, happy days, if I don’t, I’ll just keep working hard. I haven’t heard from anyone. I’m just focusing on right now, I just want to keep playing well and help the team win games.”
Spence is determined to end the season strong with Tottenham
The former Middlesbrough man has been posting some ridiculous numbers of late and doing things that one would not expect from a full-back.
Spence is among the top five players in the Premier League for dribble success rate this season, having completed 54.5 per cent of the 40 dribbles he has attempted so far.
When asked if he feels ready to take on all-comers at the moment, the defender responded: “Yeah, I’m very confident at the moment, I’m playing well. Most importantly it’s about the team, we need to win. Come next week and Thursday, we need to get through to the next round so I think that’s the most important thing.
“There’s always something to play for [in the Premier League]. We want to win as many games as possible and when we do that, we’ll see where we are at the end of the season.”
