Tottenham face tough task to beat Bayern Munich and Real Madrid to transfer target

0

Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of signing one of the Premier League’s best young centre-backs might have just diminished, with reports now indicating that the player’s performances this season have caught the attention of one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Tottenham are well stocked for centre-backs after the arrival of Kevin Danso in January, but reports have continued suggesting that the Lilywhites are expected to further reinforce that position in the summer.

Over recent weeks, we have heard that Spurs are big fans of Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen, who is having a stellar first season in the Premier League following his move from Juventus last summer.

However, over the last few days, a number of outlets have claimed that Tottenham are expected to face a lot of competition for Huijsen this summer, with clubs from around Europe watching the 19-year-old’s progress in the South Coast.

Bayern Munich join Real Madrid in Huijsen interest

Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has now taken to social media to say that the Cherries youngster is considered ‘a very interesting centre-back’ by Bayern Munich.

While this potentially throws the cat amongst the pigeons for Spurs, the journalist explains that Bayern have only ‘gathered information’ about Huijsen so far.

He backs up the claim about a £50m release clause in the defender’s contract but explains that clause makes him ‘too expensive’ for the Bundesliga giants, who have other more pressing priorities this summer.

Would it make sense for Tottenham to move for Dean Huijsen?

Huijsen appears to be a generational talent and looks set to evolve into one of the best centre-backs in the world.

That is why a few clubs will be more than happy to splurge £50m on the Spain Under-21 international, but it might not make sense for Tottenham to spend such a big fee on another central defender.

In Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Radu Dragusin, Kevin Danso, Archie Gray, and Ben Davies, Postecoglou has plenty of options at his disposal.

Unless a big name like Romero leaves, the Australian might not want to spend a big chunk of his transfer budget on a centre-back.
