Troy Deeney has suggested that one Premier League manager who has been linked with the Tottenham job may struggle to work under Daniel Levy and the Spurs hierarchy.

The speculation over the Tottenham managerial job looks unlikely to slow down anytime soon, with the rumours once again picking up after Spurs fell to their 15th loss of the season at Craven Cottage.

It has been reported that Tottenham have already identified candidates to take over from Postecoglou in the summer, although the North London club are not expected to make any immediate decision on the Australian’s future.

While Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola is thought to be Spurs’ top managerial target, other Premier League bosses are also said to be of interest to the Lilywhites.

Troy Deeney says Marco Silva may not be a good fit for Tottenham

It has also been claimed over recent days that Tottenham could turn to Marco Silva in the summer if Postecoglou fails to achieve European qualification for next season.

The same update suggested that the Portuguese coach has a £8m release clause in his Fulham contract, which might put off Spurs.

However, Deeney believes that the 47-year-old, who he worked with at Watford, could make demands from Tottenham’s owners that they might not be able to satisfy.

The pundit said on talkSPORT (7.39 am, 18 March): “I obviously worked with Marco Silva. He won’t play nice with you, he’ll tell the ownership exactly what he wants.

“He’ll demand an expectation. Will they allow for that? I don’t think so. So there’s a lot going on at Spurs, for as nice as it is, the training ground and the facilities, what’s the expectation? And once we know that, then we can grow.”

Why Spurs may want to avoid a confrontational manager

Having been scared from working with prickly characters like Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, Daniel Levy might not have the appetite to work with another hothead.

While Silva is undoubtedly a very accomplished manager, he is evidently a hothead and is no stranger to falling out with his employers.

Tottenham may prefer a calmer, more balanced personality like Thomas Frank or Andoni Iraola, who are more likely to toe the party line.
