Daniel Levy is ‘highly unlikely’ to pay manager release clause that scared West Ham away

A fresh report has shed light on whether Tottenham Hotspur are likely to make a move for Marco Silva in the summer and what Fulham plan to do to keep their head coach from Spurs’ clutches.

While Andoni Iraola has emerged as the top contender to replace Ange Postecoglou at Spurs this summer, other Premier League managers are also on the Lilywhites’ radar.

It has emerged over recent days that Tottenham are also fans of Fulham boss Marco Silva, whose future at Craven Cottage is thought to be up in the air.

However, the same update explained that the £8m release clause in Silva’s contract might put off the North London club from pursuing a deal.

TBR Football have now claimed that Silva is indeed ‘appreciated’ by the Spurs hierarchy as they continue to look for potential replacements for Postecoglou.

However, the outlet claims that the Portuguese coach’s release clause previously put off West Ham from pursuing a deal for him and asserts that Daniel Levy is ‘highly unlikely’ to pay the clause.

It is explained that despite being protected by the clause, Fulham are now making efforts to tie their head coach to a new deal and are soon expected to open talks with the 47-year-old regarding an extension.

What does Ange Postecoglou need to do to save his job?

Given Tottenham’s league form this season, the writing seems to be on the wall for the Australian coach, unless the Lilywhites do something historic in the Europa League.

In fact, it was reported a couple of days ago that Daniel Levy has informed Postecoglou that he will be sacked unless he secures European qualification for next season.

If that is the case, the Australian will know that his fate depends on lifting the trophy in Bilbao in May and keeping alive his proud record of silverware in his second season at clubs.
