Ange Postecoglou is on thin ice as Tottenham board’s feelings are revealed

0

A BBC journalist suggests there is now genuine frustration within Tottenham Hotspur’s hierarchy about the team’s performances under Ange Postecoglou.

The Lilywhites have endured a woeful campaign, and while early-season struggles were largely down to injuries, their recent displays have been just as lacklustre.

Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage marked their 15th loss of the season—an alarming statistic for a club with top-four aspirations.

That result saw Spurs drop to 14th in the Premier League table, a position that no one at the club would have anticipated at the start of the campaign.

Tottenham frustrated with Ange Postecoglou’s performance this season

Despite mounting frustration, the Tottenham board are said to be exercising patience with Postecoglou.

Rather than pulling the plug immediately, they intend to conduct a full review of the season once the campaign concludes.

BBC Sport journalist Nizaar Kinsella has now shed light on the feelings within the club regarding Postecoglou’s recent performances.

Conducting a Q&A session with Spurs fans, he was inevitably asked about the Australian’s position—a situation that is becoming increasingly precarious.

Kinsella stated: “I get the sense Spurs don’t want to make a change right now, but there is genuine frustration growing about the underperformance behind the scenes.

“Spurs really want Postecoglou to work out and have been very patient with him so far. The Australian has said he has not felt ‘alone’ during this time and has been supported.

“But with all their goodwill and hope that the Europa League can save Postecoglou, I’m not sure they can win the argument that he should stay if they get knocked out of Europe.

“As of today, that’s my best read of the situation.”

Can Postecoglou survive the season?

Despite the failures of this campaign, there is still a chance that Postecoglou remains in charge of Spurs next season—if he manages to win the Europa League. That could be the lifeline he needs, but it’s a huge ask considering Spurs’ current form.

For now, the international break provides a moment of respite. Postecoglou has taken the opportunity to recharge, as he was spotted unwinding with his family in Greece. Next up for Spurs? A massive clash against Chelsea on 3rd April.
