Tottenham legend accuses Sol Campbell of lying about his transfer to Arsenal
Graham Roberts has become the latest person to accuse Sol Campbell of lying after the 50-year-old insisted that Tottenham tried to exploit him ahead of contract negotiations.
Sol Campbell remains the most disliked player among the Spurs fan base by a long way and that is unlikely to change anytime soon, with the Tottenham supporters understandably never forgiving him for his infamous betrayal back in 2021.
Earlier this week, Campbell accused Tottenham of trying to frame him in a police investigation involving a bust-up that happened at Derby County.
The centre-back asserted that the Spurs hierarchy wanted him to be charged with assaulting a steward so that they could retain him on a more modest contract.
Graham Roberts fires back at Sol Campbell
Then-Tottenham chairman, Alan Sugar, has already accused Sol Campbell of lying, insisting that the centre-back swapped N17 for Arsenal only because the Lilywhites would not cede to his huge contract demands.
Former Tottenham Hotspur captain Graham Roberts has now backed up Sugar’s claim, insisting that Campbell has been caught lying about his move to Arsenal time and again.
Roberts also felt that Gary Neville and the other Overlap hosts should have grilled the former England star and called out his lies during the interview.
Sol Campbell is doing himself no favours with Tottenham fans
Whatever one thinks about what Campbell did back in 2001 and whether he deserves the kind of treatment he gets from Spurs fans, the reality is that he is doing himself no favours by making these statements.
The 50-year-old might as well own the move he made rather than trying to come up with excuses, which Tottenham fans are certainly not going to buy.
