Tottenham will have to shatter their transfer record to sign Adam Wharton
Tottenham Hotspur have been told that they will have to shatter their transfer record in order to land Adam Wharton, who is also wanted by some of the biggest clubs across Europe.
Based on the transfer rumours over recent weeks, it is clear that the Lilywhites are keen on additions in the middle of the park and are prioritising homegrown players.
It has been reported over recent weeks that Tottenham have taken steps to sign Angel Gomes while various outlets have also said that Spurs are plotting a move for Morgan Gibbs-White.
Another Englishman Spurs have been linked with is an exiting Crystal Palace star, who has been turning a lot of heads with his performance at Selhurst Park over the last 12 months.
It was revealed last month by a number of sources that Tottenham are right in the thick of the race to sign Adam Wharton, but the Lilywhites have just received some bad news regarding the 21-year-old.
Tottenham have to shatter transfer record to sign Adam Wharton
GiveMeSport have now confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur are indeed keen on the Palace man but they reveal that Ange Postecoglou’s side have been handed a huge blow in their pursuit of the player.
This is because the Eagles are now threatening to increase their demands for Wharton to £100m as the interest in his services continues to grow.
This poses a major roadblock for Tottenham, whose most expensive signing was Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth for £65m last summer.
With Palace under no pressure to sell since Wharton has four years left on his contract, the Lilywhites’ pursuit of the player has now been complicated by the South London club’s increasing valuation.
Spurs face a lot of competition for Wharton
The complications do not end there as GiveMeSport say that Tottenham also have to see off competition from a whole host of clubs to land the England international.
Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea are all said to be monitoring Wharton while reigning European Champions Real Madrid are also poised to enter the race for the former Blackburn Rovers man.
