Ange Postecoglou makes admission about Heung-min Son contract talks at Tottenham
Ange Postecoglou has revealed if Tottenham Hotspur have opened talks with Heung-min Son regarding a new contract as the Spurs captain edges closer to the final year of his deal.
Spurs triggered an extension to Son’s contract earlier this season, which means that his current deal runs until 2026.
Various outlets over recent months have suggested that Tottenham could cash in on Son this summer, especially after the forward has failed to live up to his own high standards this season.
Some sources have stated over recent weeks that Spurs have already started searching the market for Son’s long-term replacement, and the North London club have now finally broken their silence on the forward’s future.
Heung-min Son is not in talks over new Tottenham deal
Postecoglou has now confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur are yet to initiate talks with the South Korean’s camp over a long-term contract extension.
Interestingly, the Spurs head coach revealed that assessing Son’s future is part of the club’s agenda for the summer, suggesting that it will be assessed at the end of the campaign.
When asked if the forward has been approached regarding a new deal, Postecoglou told Football.London: “Don’t think so. We triggered the extension. Apart from that, no. I think all those things we will address at the appropriate time. I don’t think now is the time to look at that.
“Certainly at the end of the year, there will be a point of review where we look at where we are as a squad and do some forward planning – if I’m here, mate. And look at what next year looks like and beyond. I’m sure Sonny will be part of those discussions.”
Son’s proposed move to Bayern Munich rubbished
At the start of March, it was suggested by some sources that Bayern Munich are plotting a sensational move for Son, with the Bundesliga giants thought to be keen on reuniting the Spurs man with Harry Kane.
However, a few days ago, journalist Christian Falk dismissed those rumours out of hand, insisting that Bayern cannot afford a deal for Son this summer.
It remains to be seen whether Heung-min Son will eventually sign a new Spurs contract or whether he will part ways with legendary status in the summer of 2026.
