A BODY language expert has revealed Meghan Markle has employed a subtle tactic to endear herself to the British public.
Judi James claims that the Duchess of Sussex being tactile with husband Prince Harry sends a “possessive” message during public appearances.
Speaking to the Express, Judi explained: “Hand-holding is a common gesture for most couples in love, but by pulling Harry’s left arm out with her free hand and pressing it against her own torso Meghan appeared to be performing a lowering ritual of ingratiation.
“I.e. looking slightly vulnerable by clinging to her prince in a very effective and sensible bid to gain acceptance by the entire country.”
She said the former Suits actress has been employing this “tactic” since it was announced Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were dating.
The body language expert added: “Meghan arrived on the UK stage using this rather possessive but also passive gesture during her engagement interview and she continued to use it throughout the start of her relationship with Harry.”
Judi said that Meghan “lowering” herself when in public is a natural response to what people do when they meet in-laws.
She continued: “Animals lower their heads to show respect in a bid to integrate and this part ‘hide’ gesture would do a similar job in the human world, which is why it’s often used during first meetings with new in-laws!”
This follows the announcement that Meghan and Prince Harry will break away from Prince William and Kate Middleton to have a separate royal household and office.
The parents-to-be will instead base their official household office at Buckingham Palace, and will have a separate communications team to reflect this move.
Kensington Palace said: “The Queen has agreed to the creation of a new Household for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, following their marriage in May last year.
“The Household, which will be created with the support of The Queen and The Prince of Wales, will be established in the spring.
“This long-planned move will ensure that permanent support arrangements for The Duke and Duchess’s work are in place as they start their family and move to their official residence at Frogmore Cottage.”
