Around half an hour later, two cars parked outside a home in the Temple View Green estate in Clarehall, a five minute drive away, went ablaze too.
Videos shared across social media showed large plumes of black smoke as the vehicles perished in the driveway.
Stunned neighbours can be seen in the distance, with some taking videos.
Another video shows a hooded man chasing another while brandishing the meat cleaver in his right hand.
The man first takes cover behind a red van before the attacker starts to punch the van.
He chases the man around a car for less than a minute before walking away.
There was also another man pictured in the background but is not seen to be involved.
The person taking the video is heard saying: “Holy f***… meat cleaver, someone’s going to die. Holy s***.”
‘NO DISPUTE’
The charred remains of both cars lay before the badly damaged front of the house, with the sliding door and sitting room window smashed due to the heat.
A family member told the Sun they had no idea what the rampage, involving a Vietnamese national who lives nearby, told us: “We’re OK, we’re in shock.
“No one is hurt thankfully. He burned out her (another relative) place as well. There’s actually no dispute, I don’t know what is wrong with him.”
Neighbours told of their horror at what had unfolded on their doorstep, saying: “It’s crazy. Children play on that green. It is just lucky none of them were injured.”
A spokesman said: “Gardai have arrested a man in his 40s following several incidents of criminal damage by fire that occurred in the Coolock and Clarehall areas of Dublin on Monday.
