According to the Irish Times, the woman’s baby, who was born over the weekend, was seriously hurt in the incident and is receiving emergency treatment.
The hospital confirmed an inquiry was underway after the “tragic occurrence.”
Sources claimed the new mum had suffered “an episode” and fell unconscious before she was found dead.
They suggested she had been checked on by staff just an hour earlier.
An insider told the Irish Mirror: “The theory at the moment is she became unwell and fell from her bed on to the floor.
“It is a tragic freak accident, the baby is just days old.”
