Jordan Spieth invites cancer-stricken teen, 15, to play with him before Masters 2019 and he’s so good he gets signed by Titleist
JORDAN SPIETH invited a cancer-stricken teenager to play with him – and he turned out to be so good that he signed a contract with Titleist.
The 2015 Masters champion had a knock with inspirational Alex Trevino Jr ahead of this week’s Valero Texas Open.
Alex, 15, is battling Ewing sarcoma and the treatment he has received since being diagnosed for a second time last November has left him weak.
Swinging a club is a lot of effort but he can still putt, as he showed by rolling one in using Spieth’s trusty putter.
A video posted by the PGA Tour showed Alex then signed a contract with club manufacturer Titleist, who provided him with his own bag and clubs specially marked with the cancer ribbon.
Alex said: “Mind blown. I didn’t think I’d ever do something like this. I’m happy and grateful. Thank you.”
Meanwhile, with one eye on next week’s Masters, Spieth has opened up on his 2016 meltdown.
The three-time Major champion held a five-shot lead with nine holes to go before hitting two balls into the water on the treacherous par-3 12th.
That led to a quadruple bogey and allowed Danny Willett to claim his first green jacket.
But, speaking on the No Laying Up podcast, Spieth is adamant he did not wilt under pressure.
He said: “I didn’t choke. It wasn’t like I got here and the moment got the best of me.

“I just legitimately had this thing wrong with my swing.
“When the pressure was on that day I was hitting the ball horribly – but it wasn’t because it was Sunday at Augusta.
“I was just hitting it that bad. Unfortunately that’s not the way it can be or would be looked at, no matter what I say.”
