Celebrity Big Brother star Chloe Goodman’s sister swindled £21k benefits to fund lavish lifestyle including £3,500 Vegas trip
CELEBRITY Big Brother star Chloe Goodman’s sister has escaped jail after swindling £21,000 benefits to fund a luxury lifestyle.
Lauryn Goodman splurged on lavish trips to Las Vegas and skiing holidays with Chloe, who starred on the first series of MTV’s Ex On The Beach in 2014.
The 28-year-old raked in housing benefit and income support despite having other forms of income and a joint mortgage with her mum on a house in Brighton.
Goodman wept as she was told she could be jailed at Hove Crown Court today for wrongly claiming benefits between December 2013 to December 2016.
But she was spared jail and instead was handed a seven month jail sentence suspended for two years after admitting seven offences relating to the benefits fraud at an earlier hearing.
She was also ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and told to pay her to pay £670 costs.
LUXURY HOLIDAYS
Chloe watched from the public gallery as the court heard how Goodman claimed £21,007.76 after lying on application forms for income support and housing benefit.
The Instagram star also failed to disclose to the Department of Work and Pensions she had more than £16,000 in the bank and an income of £370-a-month from an insurance policy.
Goodman forked out £3,500 to buy airline tickets to Las Vegas on a trip with sister Chloe – as well as spending the cash on hiring ski equipment for a luxury trip at Les Arcs in France.
When she was interviewed in February 2017 she claimed the bank accounts belonged to her mother and she had no access to them.
She also said an ISA containing a large sum of money belonged to her father and told them she had no interest in the property in Brighton.
‘SHE IS VERY SORRY’
Sally Mertens, defending Goodman, said she had been battling depression and was planning to return to work at HSBC.
The lawyer added: “There is an inability to face the music as a result of telling lies and behaving dishonestly.
“She is very, very sorry for her conduct.
“Her sister, Chloe Goodman who sits in the public gallery, was mortified to consider her conduct has exacerbated the situation.
“Ms Goodman has lost her good character.
“She is well educated and has had many opportunities.”
‘CATASTROPHICALLY BAD DECISIONS’
The court was also told Goodman has now paid back the money she stole – but Judge David Rennie told her she could not “buy herself out of trouble”.
Sentencing, he said: “This is not who you are.
“You have made some catastrophically bad decisions.
“But that is never an excuse for what is essentially stealing public money.”
