Pacer drags sci-fi racing into the 21st century – with battle royale

PACER is bringing zero-gravity sci-fi racing back, and dragging it into the modern era while it’s at it.

It’s about time too, as it’s been about 15 years since F-Zero GX and 20 since Wipeout 3, games still revered by speed freaks.

Pacer drags the genre into the present day too, with new modes including combat racing on an ever-shrinking track.

You’ve got fully customisable vehicles too, with options for what’s under the hood as well as how it looks and what weapons you equip.

Wipeout was one of the PlayStation’s defining titles, while F-Zero was beloved by Nintendo fans — but Pacer is coming to Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

It’s got a pumping electronic soundtrack that harks back to Wipeout thanks to CoLD SToRAGE, who composed a whole host of tunes fans that helped define the sound of the genre, and others to boot.

At launch it’s going to have 18 tracks, some of which will be unlockable through a campaign mode, and five different base racers for you to customise.

With online ranked modes, spectator options and replay modes to help players capture their best bits to upload, we suspect this may well turn into a streaming favourite when it launches later in the year.

R8 promise full-on 4K, 60 frames-per-second performance on Xbox One X and PS4 Pro, along with PC.

It’s also going to have dedicated hosted servers for racers for added security and to keep out the cheats.
