Evil killer Aaron Campbell appeals sentence for rape and murder of Alesha MacPhail, 6, on Isle of Bute

EVIL killer Aaron Campbell is appealing his sentence for the rape and murder of six-year-old Alesha MacPhail.

The twisted teen was sentenced to life with a minimum of 27 years for the horrific crime.

But it has now been revealed he is appealing the punishment.

Campbell – who denied the crimes at trial – admitted the rape and murder for the first time ahead of sentencing at Glasgow’s High Court.

Details of his confession were read to the court, in which he said Alesha had woken up in his arms as he carried her away from her family’s holiday home at 2am.

Alesha’s tormented mum launched herself at the monster and branded him a “vile rat” as he smirked at her during sentencing.

Caging Campbell, Lord Matthews branded him a cold and calculated individual who had shown “not a flicker of remorse” during the trial.

‘ARROGANT’ KILLER

During his sentencing, Lord Matthews took into consideration Campbell’s “arrogance and callousness”.

He described his shock at seeing a police officer “break down in the witness box” for the first time in his career in court.

Quotes from Campbell in his admission read that “all he thought about was killing her.

“That it was a moment of opportunity – at any other time in life murder would not have been the conclusion.”

At least one juror who helped convict Campbell returned to court to hear the killer being sentenced.

A court source said: “It’s very rare anyone who was on a jury would come back.

“It is just another example of the emotion the case provoked that a juror wanted to see in person Campbell being jailed.”

Alesha’s mother screamed in horror at Campbell as he was taken down, branding him a “f***ing disgusting, vile little rat”.

Former FBI criminal profiler Mark Safarik issued a chilling warning that it would be a “mistake” to free Campbell as he is too dangerous.

And Alesha’s devastated uncle CJ MacPhail pleader for her memory to be kept alive as her killer rots in jail.

He insisted the evil teen doesn’t deserve to be the focus of the tragedy.

He said of Alesha, six: “I don’t want her to be remembered as the young girl that was killed by a monster.

“She’s the one who needs to be kept in everyone’s minds.
