Inside Britney Spears’ overprotected life after she enters mental health facility

0

IN 2001 she released a song called Overprotected, and after her highly publicised breakdown in 2007, that’s exactly what Britney Spears became.

The images of the pop star shaving off all her hair in a Californian salon shocked the world, and her subsequent erratic behaviour led to her dad Jamie becoming a co-conservator of her estate.

While Britney managed to get her life and career back on track, it was revealed yesterday that she had checked into a mental health facility as she struggles to deal with her father’s ill health.

As the mother-of-two focuses on her wellbeing, we take a look back at her overprotected life and how it all started with the infamous head shaving.

In February that year, Britney asked the owner of Esther’s Hair Salon to shave her hair off as her extensions were too tight.

He refused so Britney did it herself, and days later she checked into rehab.

Her stay didn’t last long, and she was soon seen infamously attacking a paparazzi’s car with an umbrella.

More stop-start rehab stints ensued, all while her divorce from husband Kevin Federline was occurring.

Just seven months after her breakdown and rehab stint, Britney’s record label started preparing her first album in four years, Blackout.

Her first single from the album was Gimme More, and Britney took to the stage at the MTV VMAs to perform it.

However the performance was a disaster as Britney half-heartedly danced and mimed to the track, a blonde wig on her head and missing false nails.

Britney suffered a terrifying meltdown and was seen strapped to a gurney as she was wheeled out of her home.

Reports claimed she had popped prescription amphetamines and locked herself in her bathroom with youngest son Jayden.

When she finally agreed to come out, she was placed in a 72 hour psychiatric hold.

But after her release, Britney was admitted once again a few weeks later and placed on another 5150 hold – which is used to hold patients who are deemed a danger to themselves or others.

Conservatorship

Drastic measures were required after this, and so a judge made her father Jamie and attorney Andrew M. Wallet her co-conservators.

The men oversee Britney’s estate and – at the time – of her medical care, career oversight and any monetary transaction.

The temporary conservatorship became permanent in October of that year.

Basically, Britney has had to seek permission in virtually every aspect of her life ever since, even to buy a cup of coffee.

Every year, Jamie and Andrew have to report to a court on how every single dollar that Britney earns is managed and spent.
