Pokémon ‘audition’ trailer for Detective Pikachu shows what the adorable creatures REALLY look like
THE latest trailer for the live-action Detective Pikachu movie sees a whole host of Pokémon auditioning for the film, and our best look yet at what they might really look like.
Pokémon have always been adorable when they’ve been animated in games or on TV, or when they’re crafted for trading cards – but this movie is the first time they’ve been officially rendered the way they’d look in real life.
You can get a glimpse at a bunch of other Pokémon in the trailer too[/caption]
When the Pokémon were just cartoons they all looked quite similar — but now they’re in 3D and in the real world they’ve all got their own looks.
Some, like fire Pokémon Charmander and Charizard looks scaly, while Jigglypuff, Pikachu, Eevee and Psyduck are all quite fluffy.
Creatures like Squirtle, Sneasel and Pancham that are more closely based on real animals are all pretty cute too… from what we’ve seen so far.
The monkey-like Pokémon Aipom gets a little worked up in the trailer and goes from adorable to terrifying in the blink of an eye.
Some of the weirder-looking beasts like Loudred and Lickitung definitely step over the boundary into unsettling — and let’s just say we’re really very glad Mr Mime didn’t make it into this trailer, because he haunts our dreams.
Detective Pikachu sees Ryan Reynolds voicing everyone’s favourite electric Pokémon, clad in a deerstalker hat.
The story revolves around Detective Pikachu — a world class detective who just happens to be — teaming up with the son of a vanished private eye, played by Jurassic World’s Justice Smith and uncovering a plot that threatens the world.
Bill Nighy, Suki Waterhouse and Rita Ora will also make appearances.
Sneasel looks pleasingly fuzzy, but those claws seem like they could do some damage[/caption]
Snubbul is appropriately grumpy, and slightly fuzzy[/caption]
Loudreds leathery skin and huge teeth combine for a really rather creepy combination[/caption]
Magikarp is both useless and mildly disturbing[/caption]
