AN elderly couple’s home has been left in the dark for “26 years” by a 40ft Leylandii plant their neighbour refuses to chop down.
Maggie Orgee, 65, says the giant evergreens block out the sunlight to her £300 home in Worcester, where she lives with husband Robert, 67, who has dementia.
Mrs Orgee is now at war with her neighbour, Ken Miles, over the out-of-control hedges.
The retired health care assistant, said: “It is really bad, the hedges have grown out of control. I can’t stand it.
“They’ve grown so tall they have blocked sunlight from entering my house.
“Bits of the plant falls into my garden and creates a big mess. I am constantly cleaning up after this plant. I am so fed up.
“From my bedroom window you can see clearly into his garden – you cannot step foot in his garden it is so over grown.
“He ignores the fact and thinks the problem will go away.
“It is terribly filthy his house and covered in ivy. You cannot even see his back window.
“His property has been horribly neglected and is not nice to look at.”
She claims she has repeatedly tried to contact retired milkman Mr Miles about the hedges but has not received a response.
Mrs Orgee, who has lived in the property with her husband since 1993, added: “I have knocked on his door and have sent him multiple letters complaining, but he never answers his door or responds to any of my letters.
“In March I even paid £200 for a tree surgeon to trim the plant down from her side of the fence but it just grows back.

“I have been here for 26 years; it is my home. His curtains are the same ones he had when we moved in. They are like rags.
“I do not want to move but I have had enough. It is not my job to cut down his trees or pay to keep it maintained.
“I have found rats in my garden which I think have come from his garden. It’s horrible.”
