A STEP-grandmother who burned her three-year-old step-grandaughter by holding her down in scalding water, has been jailed for 20 years.
Angela Engeron, 38, left the girl with severe burns to over 40 per cent of her body and lied to authorities about the cruel assault in Paragould, Arkansas.
The girls’ injuries “were not consistent with the story given”, according to an affidavit obtained by KAIT News.
In January last year, the Arkansas Child Abuse Hotline received a report that a 3-year-old girl suffered burns to more than 40 per cent of her body after she was held in scalding water.
Detective Rhonda Thomas of the Paragould Police Department said the girl was examined by a doctor who found her injuries were consistent with an ‘immersion burn and non-accidental trauma’.
The medical report, from Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, said the girl had partial thickness burns to her legs, feet, stomach, buttocks and back.
The report also showed the child had abrasions and bruising.
Doctors told investigators that “the history given is inconsistent with the injuries and the patterns of the burn are consistent with an immersion burn and non-accidental trauma.”
