Love Island viewers label ‘chived’ the new ‘bev’ as they insist Tommy Fury and Molly Mae’s new word will never catch on
LOVE Island insist Tommy Fury and Molly-Mae Hague’s new word ‘chived’ is the new ‘bevvy’ and will never catch on.
The pair coined the term on a cheesy date in the villa’s garden tonight, but the new use of the herb in a different context didn’t impress viewers who were confused where they pulled it from.

They decided the word will be their code for when they’re annoyed with one another.
Molly-Mae said to him: “Like, if you’re getting p****d off, I’m getting chived.”
One fuming fan wrote: “I’m so chived with all these try hard catchphrases/words #LoveIsland.”
Another posted: “I’m getting a bit chived with all these new phrases if I’m honest #loveisland.
A third vented: “Chived is worse than bev #LoveIsIand.
A fourth shared: “Ngl if ‘bev’ can’t be a thing ‘chived’ is definitely not allowed to be a thing lmao #loveisland
The new phrase comes just days after “it is what it is” was touted as the new phrase of 2019 as fans rejected Lucie Donlan’s “bevvy”, claiming it makes no sense.
Lucie might be popular with the lads but her Cornish slang hasn’t been quite as well-received.
In fact, viewers were left baffled by her repeated use of the word “bev” or “bevvy” to describe the hot men in the iconic villa, taking to Twitter to insist that it means drink.
During her introduction video Lucie said: “In the villa you’re probably going to hear some new and weird words.
“A bev is a hot guy. If he’s your boyfriend then he’s your bev, but if he’s not your boyfriend then he’s a bev.
“I can’t wait to have the best summer ever, this surfing barbie needs to find a bev.”
However, despite her explanation, no-one else had ever heard of bev in that context and countless viewers took to Twitter to rage about it.
Meanwhile, the overuse of the term “it is what it is” by this series’ men spawned many-a-meme, with both Sherif Lanre and Michael Griffiths repeatedly using the term when they were pied by the girls during the first coupling ceremony.
Love Island is famed for spawning popular slang terms each series, and it didn’t take long for viewers to flock to social media to share their reaction to the new lingo.
Referencing an iconic line from 2004 film Mean Girls, one wrote: “Lucie, stop trying to make bev happen, it’s not going to happen #Fetch”.
Another tweeted: “If Primark don’t have a T-Shirt with ‘it is what it is’ written on it within a week, I am going to be disappointed.”
A third moaned: “If I hear the words ‘it is what it is’ or ‘bev’ one more time i swear i’m gonna scream.”
