Liverpool and Holland star Virgil van Dijk not bothered by England boo boys

VIRGIL VAN DIJK  is not bothered by the jeering from England fans.

The Liverpool defender was booed each time he touched the ball by the 3,000 England fans who watched Portugal’s 1-0 Nations League win over Holland on Sunday.

This followed Thursday’s semi-final between England and Holland when the PFA Player of the Year was jeered throughout.

Dutch captain Van Dijk, 27, said: “I don’t really care if somebody boos me or boos the team. We’re trying to win the game.

“We know we have a lot of support behind us and at the end of the day it’s us players who have to do the job — and it doesn’t affect me at all.”

Van Dijk admitted Holland’s loss in the final was a tough end to a terrific season for him.

He added: “We have to keep our heads up high, recover from all of this and learn from this whole experience, because we have a young group.

“I think before this tournament started, if someone said we would be in the final and that we would beat France, Germany and England, I would have said they were crazy.

“We have to be proud of ourselves. We have made big progress as a team, on and off the pitch, so we have to keep going and make sure we qualify for the Euros.”
