Killing Eve fans say ‘magic is missing’ in series 2 after Phoebe Waller-Bridge quits writing it
KILLING Eve fans have been left disappointed by the second series, after Phoebe Waller-Bridge stepped down from writing the production.
Viewers waited in anticipation for the new instalment to hit our screens on the weekend, which is now fully available on BBC iplayer, but felt let down by the programme claiming the “magic is missing” without the Fleabag creator on board.
The first season of Killing Eve had the audience on tenterhooks as villainous Villanelle/Oksana Astankova (Jodie Comer) brutally murdered her victims, and entered into a game of cat and mouse with MI5 Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh).
The previous season of the dark thriller was a happy medium of intense moments and witty one liners, but the follow up has not lived up to expectation with Emerald Fennell behind the script.
Although Phoebe did not pen the script, because she had taken on other projects, she was the Executive Producer of Killing Eve season two.
Fans took to social media to shared their upset, one tweeted: “So disappointed to say I don’t like series 2 the tone of the show is completely different the pace was slow & drawn out & the peel story was uninteresting… I hope the 3rd season claws it back but it feels like the magic is gone.”
A second shared: “I loved the first season of Killing Eve but the second season lost the magic for me. No criticism of the cast, it’s more that the cat & mouse dynamic was more exciting in the first.”
A third pleaded for Phoebe to return to take over the writing duties, they shared: “Have watched 3 episodes of #KillingEve S2 now and not sure I want to continue. Disjointed, smug, slow and just not funny anymore. Phoebe where are you? Villanelle needs you.”
Another added: “@KillingEve 2 without Phoebe Waller-Bridge at the helm has lost its mojo. Jokes are creaky, fight scenes are awkward and the writing strains so hard to be subversive that it falls flat. Acting still wonderful but nothing feels surprising anymore. Such a shame.”
A fifth vented: “New series of killing eve is so boring.”
A separate viewer branded the recent drop a “disgrace”.
They tweeted: “Whys killing eve season 2 gotta be like this we got hyped and its so bad.. the disgrace.”
“I hate how bad season two of killing eve was”, another shared.

Another viewer took to Twitter and wrote: “Too many series start strong then the writing gets bad in season 2. Killing Eve, Westworld, Handmaid’s Tale, now Good Girls. Ugh.”
While other viewers are still obsessed with Jodie’s character. One wrote: “2 episodes in to #KillingEve season 2 and I am now 100% sure that @jodiecomer as Villanelle is my favourite TV character of all time. FACT!”
Another added: “Well that’s S2 of @KillingEve done! #jodiecomer is something else!”
