The Norweigan Epic ship left Cannes on Friday evening, and was due to dock in Palma, Majorca, early the following day.
But the journey was halted when an announcement on the Tannoy revealed a woman had gone missing.
The search has since been called off and no one seems to know what happened to the mystery woman.
Here’s a breakdown of the series of events.
Saturday 1am
Just 40 miles northwest of the ship’s destination in Palma, Majorca, a 63-year-old woman sits out on her balcony, donning a set of pink pyjamas.
It’s a windy night and the conditions are very rocky.
This was the last time her family saw her.
Saturday 8.30am
The Norwegian Epic cruise liner turns around, retracing its steps in an attempt to find the missing woman.
Passengers are ordered to scour the decks in search of the woman, while authorities trawl the seas.
An announcement is made on behalf of the woman’s family, informing passengers that she is unable to swim.
Saturday afternoon
A helicopter and search plane arrive, soaring over the water in an attempt to spot the pink pyjamas in the depths.
Several other boats joined alongside the ship, and they stayed out on the water for hours to look for the missing woman.
Saturday 9.30pm
As it is now dark, the search has been stopped completely.
Music on the ship is turned on and passengers are told to have a drink and continue as normal.
The cruise ship continued on its way to Barcelona, deciding to skip the stop at Palma.
Sunday morning
The remaining passengers arrive in Barcelona.
Sunday 3pm
Authorities return to the area to search for her again.
The search is called off and the woman still hasn’t been found.
WHAT DID PASSENGERS ON BOARD SAY?
Claire Murphy, from Tonbridge, Kent who was on the ship for the week long cruise, told the Sun Online: “They said they were turning round, because someone in pink pyjamas had been seen going overboard, so we had to go back and look for her.
“Everyone was bewildered and looking out of the windows or on the edge of the ship.
“It took us two hours to get back to the place where they were last seen. We stopped there for four hours to try and find her.
“We were literally in the middle of the Med, it was really windy and it was very rocky.”
Noah Kowaloff told the Sun Online: “There was an announcement asking for our help looking off the sides of the ship for pink pyjamas in the water. Many people were looking from the top deck.
“We circled the same area of the Mediterranean. It’s still hard to believe it happened.”

A Norwegian Cruise Line spokesman said: “Early morning on June 8, a 63-year-old Korean female guest went overboard while the ship was sailing from Cannes, France to Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
“As soon as the report was made, the authorities were notified and a search and rescue operation ensued. The search has now ceased, and sadly, the guest has not been found.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the individual’s family during this difficult time.”
