FRANK LAMPARD’S expected return to Chelsea will lead to a huge overhaul on the coaching staff – resulting in up to nine of Maurizio Sarri’s team leaving or changing roles.
The Blues confirmed the Italian’s departure for Juventus on Sunday with the 60-year-old agreeing a three-year deal to join Juventus.
Now Roman Abramovich is set to turn to the club’s all-time top goalscorer to become the Blues’ new leader following his impressive first season in management at Derby County.
Chelsea will make a formal approach to the Championship side for Lampard this week, and plans are already in place to clear the backroom team in order for him to bring in his own men according to The Telegraph.
His Rams assistant Jody Morris is expected to head back to Stamford Bridge along with Chris Jones as fitness coach to replace Paolo Bertelli, who is wanted by Sarri at Juve.
And the highly-rated Joe Edwards, development officer at Chelsea, is due to be promoted to the first-team set-up.
Morris and Edwards have worked closely together in the past at the club’s academy, and with the two-window Fifa transfer ban in place, they will play a big role in helping to introduce some of the youngsters into senior squad.
Former Chelsea and France midfielder Claude Makelele is also poised to return to help take charge of the loan players.
That will follow the arrival of Petr Cech who will start a new technical role to work between the first team and the board following his retirement from playing with Arsenal last month.
Sarri brought six staff with him to West London a year ago, each only signing a 12-month deal, and none are expected to be kept on.
But Lampard will insist any new additions joining him, such as Morris and potentially Shay Given as goalkeeper coach, are put on the same length contract as himself.
Derby’s head of analysis Steve Rands may also be heading to the capital.
