Meghan Markle doesn’t make Tatler’s bonkers UK’s 10 most ‘powerful’ people list – but Jamie Redknapp and Harper Beckham do
YEAR after year, high society magazine Tatler complies it’s annual ‘Social Power Index’ comprising of the top 10 individuals they think most worthy of the accolade.
But while it will come as no surprise that Prince William and Kate Middleton have been named Britain’s “most socially significant” couple, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are noticeably absent from Tatler‘s exclusive round-up… and have been beaten by some rather questionable additions.
According to Tatler, an invite to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s is the ‘ultimate social trophy’[/caption]
That’s right, the glossy magazine has listed seven-year-old Harper Beckham as the UK’s fourth most influential person in the UK – bizarrely beating BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg and footballer Jamie Redknapp to the punch.
Strangely enough, Harper’s power couple parents David and Victoria Beckham also haven’t made the cut.
However, the magazine claims that Harper has earned her place on their Social Power Index as she is a permanent “front-row fixture” at her mother’s shows (obviously) who spends her time “jetting between Los Angeles, London and the Cotsworlds”. Nice for some.
And despite acknowledging Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as “the king and queen of global glamour”, the magazine have put Little Mix’s Perrie Edwards and her footballer boyfriend Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in ninth place.

Arguing that Perrie and Alex outrank the Royals, Tatler described the couple as being the “embodiment of modern glamour and success” that “everyone wants a piece of”.
Other questionable additions to Tatler’s ‘Social Power Index’ include Idris Elba and his wife Sabrina Dhowre – who recently tied the knot at a lavish ceremony in Morocco – and socialite Sabine Getty.
Despite being “phased out” of Kate Middleton’s friendship circle, Rose Hanbury and her husband have still managed to sneak in to tenth place in the list.
Explaining what makes the ideal “Social Power Index” candidate (i.e. the perfect high society party guest), the magazine’s editorial team wrote: “Assemble the right mix of glamour, money, politics and intrigue and you have all the elements of a night to remember.

“Because it’s the guests that count. Guests who have power and influence. Guests who speak to the times that we live in.”
But while she might have missed out on a title this time, Meghan Markle topped Vogue’s 25 Most Influential Women List earlier this month.
Commenting on how she handled the media spotlight throughout her pregnancy, the magazine stated: “The quietly revolutionary decision she and Prince Harry took to keep their child’s birth private echoes the commitment to wellness she was known for prior to her new life, as well as her feminist ideals.”
