They’re also the best option if your living room is on the small side, as they create the illusion of space and stop a room feeling cluttered.
A round glass coffee is preferable in a compact space as its curvy proportions don’t jut out into a room.
There are some circumstances where glass coffee tables are probably best avoided.
For example, if you’ve young children, you’ll be familiar with mucky fingerprints and the fact they show up on glass more than anywhere else in the home, so give a glass coffee table a miss if this is you.
If you’re not careful, glass tables can scratch, and once that happens the scratches are nigh on impossible to get rid of, so only go for one if you’re prepared to take a little extra care looking after it.

Having said that, glass is super easy to clean and won’t stain or discolour like other materials can.
Once you’ve decided that a glass coffee table is for you, there are a few styles to choose from.
There are freeform designs, which are made from frameless single pieces of glass that have been shaped, and framed designs which have a glass top and a frame and legs made of other materials, often wood or metal.
If you really want to add some razzle-dazzle to your living room scheme, look for a mirrored table.
Finally, think about shape: round designs are best suited to smaller spaces and if you’d rather avoid sharp edges, while square or rectangular ones have a bigger surface area.
As a general rule, your coffee table should be around a half to two-thirds of the length of your sofa and its height should be roughly the same height as your sofa seat cushions.
All the examples we’ve found come in under £200 – proof that you can have elegance and style on a tight budget.
