Donald Trump slams USA star Megan Rapinoe for national anthem protest at Women’s World Cup
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP has slammed USA star Megan Rapinoe for her protests during the national anthem.
Rapinoe, who scored twice from the penalty spot to see off Spain has refused to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” before games.
The 33-year striker has dubbed herself as “a walking protest” to Trump policies and even took the knee three years ago during the anthem to highlight the racist treatment of black men in America by police.
But Trump has hit back at Rapinoe when asked if he thought her actions were appropriate.
He told The Hill: “No, I don’t think so.”
But the president was full of praise for the US team aiming to be crowned World champions for the fourth time, but refuse to be drawn on whether women deserve equal pay.
Trump added: “I think a lot of it also has to do with the economics.

“I mean who draws more, where is the money coming in.
“I know that when you have the great stars like (Portugal’s Cristiano) Ronaldo and some of these stars… that get paid a lot of money, but they draw hundreds of thousands of people.
“But I haven’t taken a position on that at all. I’d have to look at it.”
After beating Spain, the USA will face hosts France in teh quarter-finals on Fraiday.
