A MUM has taken to Facebook to share an “environmentally friendly” shopping hack – but has been slammed by other users.
Bonnie Beck, from Nottingham, explained she now uses plastic boxes to carry her shopping, instead of plastic carrier bags.

“A random woman in Asda car park was so impressed with how I take my shopping home I thought I’d share my idea with you all,” she wrote.
“I stopped buying bags a long time ago (trying to save the planet).
“I keep these containers in my boot and load them up at the car. SO SO easy to carry my shopping in at home too!
“Then, when I’m done they slot back inside each other to save space and stay in my boot!”

But some Facebook users were not impressed with the hack, with one calling it “absolute nonsense”.
One said “They’re plastic! It’s a lot more plastic involved and if everyone buys a few it defeats the object, why not buy cotton reusable bags?”
While another said: “They are plastic tubs which use more plastic and all the packaging is plastic.”
One cruel troll even called 33-year-old Bonnie “thick as mince meat” and recommended she use paper bags instead.

But despite the haters, other users defended the mum and praised her for her efforts.
One wrote: “Wow! I think it’s a great idea, ignore the idiots that have nothing better to do and enjoy the lovely comments.”
While another said: “Personally I thought it was a fab idea mate and you should be proud of sharing your ideas.”
Another explained: “Bonnie, even if you’re not ‘really’ saving the planet, you’re saving my fingers from the numbness caused by shopping bags and for that I am eternally grateful!
“If you have any more of these life hacks, please pass them on to me.”

Following the hurtful comments, Bonnie shared another post explaining “nothing has ever been as bad for my anxiety as Facebook warriors”.
“I just want to point out the following things,” she said.
“I wasn’t trying to make out like I’m doing everything in my power to save the planet. But I am just making small changes where I can.
“Yes, lots of my products are wrapped in plastic. I have ZERO control over what companies package my products in but I can and do recycle it properly.
“Yes, my boxes are made from plastic but they aren’t single use plastic that will end up in the environment suffocating animals etc.
“However, I didn’t consider the pollution caused to produce these boxes so I will look for an alternative.
“Manners and respect cost nothing. I don’t deserve to be spoken to how I have or be called names. I’m a very nice person and just do my best in life where I can. I just has an idea and shared it with friends.”
