A MUM has revealed how she fashioned a cool Marvel-themed chest of drawers by upcycling a plain cabinet with leftover wallpaper and paint.
The woman shared snaps of her impressive handiwork on Facebook group Extreme Budget DIY & Life Hacks earlier today.
The DIY guru explained that her son has Marvel wallpaper in his bedroom, so she’d rescued the off-cuts to cover the fronts of the drawers.
After sanding the unit down, she used furniture paint and B&Q’s £7 satin varnish to create a professional finish.
She also replaced the cabinet’s rope handles, spray-painting new gold knobs a bold red colour.
Alongside before and after pictures, the woman wrote: “I’m getting really into upcycling at the min and this is my latest transformation, Marvel Heroes drawers.”
When other Facebook users asked for her method, the mum wrote: “I cut the pieces out how I wanted them and soaked the wallpaper in warm soapy water to get the backing paper off.
“Then I used [sealer] Mod Podge to decoupage it.
“I sanded the whole unit down and used furniture paint then clear varnish [sic].”
She added: “I messed up 1st try but planned it more 2nd time round.
“I soaked my wallpaper in water for a few mins too so it was easier to take the backing off.”
Other members of the group were clearly wowed by the makeover – in just a few hours, the post had amassed almost 300 likes and a number of comments.
One person wrote: “That’s amazing.”
Others said: “Awesome!” and: “Fab! Looks great.”
A few even said they were tempted to try the hack in their own homes.
“That looks fab – I’ve got a similar unit that I’ll attempt to upcycle after seeing yours,” read one message.
