ANDRE LOTTERER hopes his battles against former teammate and FE champion Jean-Eric Vergne won’t get too crazy next season.
Lotterer left the dominant Techeetah outfit to join Porsche ahead of their debut season in the all-electric championship.
The three-time 24 hours of Le Mans champion clashed with Vergne during their time at Techeetah as neither driver yielded when going wheel to wheel.
Lotterer said: ”It will be interesting to see him at a race track again.
“I’ve always had to be careful even though I have managed to him a few times while being careful.
“I hope it won’t be too crazy if am not careful.
“But obviously we all want to finish the race and race in a fair way.”
LEAVING VERGNE’S SHADOW
The pair built up a good friendship during their successful two-year partnership at Techeetah.
But Lotterer felt the time was right to step out of Vergne’s shadow and create his own legacy with Porsche in Formula E.
The 37-year-old said: “It is something that is also interesting in the move to come here.
“I can create something around me, German nationality and with a German team and Vergne taught me a lot.
“We had two great seasons and obviously sometimes I have been in front of him but he has been pretty strong.
“It took him also many races to win in Formula E so hopefully it’s my time soon.”
He added: “It was not easy to leave them (Techeetah) but I wanted to take the new challenge with Porsche and did not want to miss out on it.
“I will give everything and fight like a lion – I am a big Porsche fan and it is an honour and I am very proud to race for them.”
Lotterer will race alongside Neel Jani with the new season starting in Saudi Arabia in November.
Porsche go up against heavyweight competition in FE next year as they will compete against Mercedes, Audi, BMW and Jaguar.
