BURY are threatening to take the EFL to the High Court in a bid to stop their league expulsion.
EFL chiefs booted the League One club out on Tuesday – the night before Bolton were saved with a £10million takeover from a group that includes Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason.
This was despite the promise of a £7million rescue by new owners SJ Global arriving by 9am yesterday.
Owner Steve Dale accepted the bid — and proof of funds duly arrived.
But EFL chief Debbie Jevans claimed there would be no reprieve, insisting: “There is no appeal process.”
So now the Gigg Lane consortium — backed by sports lawyer Chris Farnell and Bury North MP James Firth — have written to the EFL, vowing to ask for an injunction.
Farnell is working with ex-Cardiff boss Dave Jones and former Bury secretary Jill Neville.
And Farnell said: “We plan on an injunction unless they relent.
“We know this is our last chance to save Bury FC and we think we have a reasonable chance.
“The injunction would be on behalf of the remaining players, manager, staff and SJ Global.”
‘LAST CHANCE TO SAVE BURY’
The EFL ended Bury’s 125-year membership at 11pm on Tuesday.
That was six hours after Dale missed a final deadline to prove he could fund the club or had sold it.
A possible rescue by C&N Sporting Risk fell through before that deadline over concerns about the club’s mortgages.
But Farnell added on SJ Global’s offer: “Money is not a problem. All the EFL have to do is accept they may have acted too fast.
“The EFL have to act to help save the club.”
Jones added: “The SJ Global deposit has been placed and we are calling on the EFL to think again.
‘EFL HAVE TO ACT’
“They knew SJ Global was not some tin-pot organisation.”
Owner Dale, who agreed the deal on Tuesday, said: “We believe an independent adjudicator should now be brought in.”
It is understood Jevans and Farnell were in talks last night.
Earlier she said: “This isn’t a situation that arose over the past 24 hours.
