BILLIE Eilish has taken the music industry by storm ever since the release of her debut EP, Don’t Smile At Me, in 2017.
Since then, she’s conquered the charts with hits such as Bad Guy, Bury a Friend and Lovely, but what else is there to know about the US pop star?
Who is Billie Eilish?
Billie Eilish is an American singer-songwriter from Los Angeles, California.
She was born on December 18, 2001 and has an older brother named Finneas O’Connell, who is now famously known to be a frequent collaborator on her music.
At age 11, Billie established that she had a passion for music and began starting to write her own songs – with the help of Finneas, of course.
In October, 2015, the California native recorded the song Ocean Eyes, which was originally written for her brother’s band, but she was later convinced to keep the track for herself.
And after releasing it as her debut single on SoundCloud in 2016, it wasn’t long before Billie built a strong online following, with people from all over the world intrigued to hear more from the teenager.
Upon landing her record deal with Darkroom and Interscope Records, the track was re-released worldwide on November 18, 2016.
By May 2019, Ocean Eyes had peaked at number 84 on the Billboard Hot 100 and went on to sell over one million copies.
On March 29, 2019, Billie released her debut album, When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go, which is described as a art-pop and electro pop record with hip hop influences.
The record was a worldwide hit, topping the charts in countries including Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States, while songs such as Bad Guy and When the Party’s Over were gaining an enormous amount of radio play.
Other singles lifted from the album were You Should See Me in a Crown, Bury a Friend and Wish You Were Gay.
In support of her success with her recent release, Billie announced the When We Fall Asleep Tour, which began on April 13, 2019 and is expected to conclude November 17, 2019.
Why was Billie Eilish upset with Nylon Germany?
Billie Eilish was furious when she came across an Instagram post advertising the release of Nylon Germany’s latest issue with the singer on the cover as a topless cyborg.
While the magazine deemed the move to be in good spirits, describing the cover as a “supernatural fembot face of the future,” Billie vented on social media that she felt the image was beyond inappropriate.
“I was never approached by Nylon about this piece whatsoever. I did not know it was happening nor did anyone on my team,” she wrote.
“You’re gonna make a picture of me shirtless? That’s not real?? At 17? And make it the cover????
“Even if the picture was supposed to look like some robot version of me… I did not consent in any way.’

Following a strong backlash that came with Billie’s tough comments, Nylon Germany was quick to defend their decision in wanting to put the teen on the cover.
The publication also went into detail as to what their message was behind the artwork, saying: “It was only ever our intention to honour Billie’s impact and her work by creating this avatar which is part of a cover series highlighting the power of digital prodigy artists.”
In the past, Billie has openly stressed how her choice of wear – which mainly consists of baggy outfits – is what she primarily wears because she doesn’t want to be judged by the way her body looks.
So, it makes perfect sense why she’d be unhappy to find out a magazine had turned her into a topless cyborg, which is a complete misrepresentation of the way Billie wants fans to view her.
