While some fans threw punches and aimed kicks, some were picking up police cones to launch at their rival supporters.
Salford had earlier scored a late own goal to allow Leyton Orient to steal an important point at Moor Lane.
Ritchie Towell had given the hosts a 13th-minute lead, before Chris Neal’s unfortunate own goal saw the spoils shared.
But the two sets of fans clashed off the pitch after the final whistle as the trouble spilled outside of the stadium.
Taking to Twitter, one fan revealed: “Couple started throwing punches and then naturally fans from both sides got involved.
POINTLESS
“Stewards were slow to react but eventually they did and it ended up as a stand off by the supporters coach with people throwing s***.
“All very pointless #lofc”.
It was not the only ground in England to see trouble on Saturday either, as an Aston Villa fan was hit by baton-wielding policeman as one supporter was arrested for affray at Selhurst Park.
Villa fans clashed with police after Henri Lansbury’s late equaliser was ruled out.
The sub looked to have snatched a point at Selhurst Park when he drove home in stoppage time.

But referee Kevin Friend disallowed the goal and booked Jack Grealish for diving in the build-up.
Stunned Grealish was stopped by his team-mates from confronting Friend while police drew batons on some travelling fans as tempers flared.
The Met Police confirmed one fan was arrested for affray and an investigation has been launched into the chaotic scenes.
Meanwhile, Gary Neville wants to move his Salford outfit into Manchester City’s old training ground at a cost of £80,000 a year.
